As the Pipe, Valve, & Fittings (PVF) Product Manager you will be responsible for profitably growing Independent Mechanical Supply (IMS) in the PVF market segment. As Product Manager you will be managing the expansion of this segment within IMS by working with Outside Sales, Inside Sales, Project Quotations, Purchasing, and Operations within the resources and parameters provided by IMS.

As the business expands and the financial results allow additional sales support resources will potentially be required. As Product Manager you will be responsible to lead this team and ensure that its integrated into the IMS structure. In the absence of other resources being available it is expected the Product Manager complete day to day tasks to meet customer expectations.

The Product Manger position is largely an office position and as such the bulk of time will be spent in an IMS office (Approx. 90%). The remaining 10% of time would be used for joint sales and IMS location support.

Core Responsibilities and Accountability:

Under the management of the Sales Manager, the duties and responsibilities of the Product Manager – PVF will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Functional Responsibilities

  • Establish and implement sell prices/margins on commercial and industrial PVF products for individual customers and/or groups of customers
  • Work closely with vendors in a fair and open way to position IMS as a preferred partner (better than normal margins, preferential delivery dates, sharing of leads) within their strategy
  • Produce Customer Quotations
  • Work cooperatively with team members, management peers, IMS Executive, and all other IMS employees
  • Collaborate with Sales Manager/Purchasing Manager on mix of products being offered and inventoried keeping in mind the Return on Investment for the Company
  • Continually explore new opportunities with the segment
  • Provide technical support and cooperatively work with the Outside Sales, Inside Sales, Projects team for all IMS locations
  • Organize training relevant to the products within the PVF segment
  • Participate in site or shop visits with customers and or sales representatives to assess project needs considering both the technical aspects of the situation and the customers past experiences and viewpoint;
  • Collaboratively develop marketing and promotional materials with the Sales Manager and or the Marketing Manager/Business Development Manager
  • Develop relationships with customers that positions IMS as their first choice for purchasing materials within this segment
  • Other duties as required


Team Management Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage a PVF team
  • Work with team members to ensure career and personal development and hold one-on-one meetings when required
  • Demonstrate managerial effectiveness in the following:



  • Effectively keep staff motivated
  • Brings issues forward to the Executive without being prompted
  • Articulate/Document company goals to team
  • Meet with staff regularly and document meetings, share results with the Executive
  • Lead by example
  • Handle all team members fairly and objectively
  • Encourage employees, under your leadership, to upgrade skills and enhance education


Process Development/Improvements

  • Creates/Documents/Implements procedure in conjunction with other Managers input
  • Develop department policies and ensure consistent service delivery
  • Communicates/Problem solves with other Managers and Supervisors



  • Consistently demonstrates a level of commitment and sacrifice expected of a Manager
  • Exceeds expectations documented by Executive
  • Continually upgrade your skills/education if deemed necessary by the industry and the Executive
  • Bring forward new ideas that will increase the profitability (cost benefit analysis) of the business
  • Successfully solve problems independently (with limited input from Executive)



  • Experience with and superior knowledge of wholesale PVF
  • Demonstrated business acumen and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven fast paced environment
  • Experience suggesting and implementing changes to processes and procedure
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Established history of demonstrating the ability to pay attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Presentation skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Adobe Acrobat, Order Entry Software and Internet Information Gathering/Research
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, planning and team building skills
  • Customer centric - Obsessive about providing excellent customer service.
