At Peel CAS, our mission is to protect children and strengthen families & communities through partnership. We are currently seeking the following professional to join our team:

Reporting to Manager, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, the Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Worker is responsible for supporting the collective actions of diverse communities to promote and support the well-being of children, youth and families. The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Worker promotes social justice to address systemic inequalities that marginalizes children, youth and families and identified communities.

 

The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Worker is dynamic and innovative and works with diverse community stakeholders and partners to assist in our Journey to Excellence.  The Anti-Racism/Anti-Black Racism Worker is critically reflective and passionate about social justice, social change and advocacy.

 

PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Work with Children Services to develop plans for the reintegration of the children and youth within 60 days from the date of being placed in a place of safety
  2. Children Services to consult with the worker as soon as a child is brought to a place of safety
  3. Refer all racialized children, youth to agency equity groups (Ujima, Awaaz, etc) servicing the cultural origin within 10 days of their placement in a place of safety
  4. Provide culturally appropriate kits to all racialized children coming into a place of safety
  5. Work with foster parents to ensure that the cultural needs of the children and youth are met
  6. Work with Akoma, SAATH, schools, mental health agencies, health care institutions, settlement agencies, and other related agencies towards resolving and enhancing the capacity of those agencies towards understand the impact of injustices (racism, anti-black racism, oppression, discrimination, harassment) on marginalized communities
  7. Chair diversity, equity, and inclusion, anti-racism and anti-black committees
  8. Ensure the provision of ADRs, Family Finding, Indigenous Approach to Dispute Resolutions, etc.,  are utilized by staff as tools of re-integration
  9. Provide training to staff on the impact of racism, anti-black racism, oppression, discrimination, harassment, bullying and related injustices on the health and well-being of black children, youth, and families and racialized children, youth and families
  10. Provide evidence-based tools to build the capacity of workers and families that we work with to deal with issues of anti-racism, anti-black racism and related injustices
  11. Anti-Black Racism Case Consultations


Community Engagement 

  • Work with diverse communities in the Peel Region to assess needs, capacities, social planning and or social action/advocacy
  • Assist community members with outreach and project planning and ensure priorities are mutually satisfactory
  • Assist in community agency mandate and vision to provide education and support. 
  • Build community awareness to support early intervention programs, admission prevention and permanency planning strategy
  • Facilitate and support the development and activities of networks, coalitions, round tables and collaborative partnerships
  • Plan and implement broad communication/media strategies in collaboration with internal Communications Department.
  • Prepare and or deliver presentations, workshops, forums and public education events.
  • Assist diverse community groups to plan and organize events and conferences.
  •  Prepare reports and position papers. Maintain records and statistical data; conduct research in collaboration with the Quality Assurance Department.
  • Model and engage in critical reflection and anti-oppressive practice during all interactions within the community
  • Participate and contribute to existing agency and community committees.
  • Provide research-based systemized feedback to agency to improve service delivery

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to design and develop relevant work plans and strategies.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Demonstrated competency in community work methods i.e. social development social planning, social justice and advocacy
  • Able to assist community residence in develop or enhance planning and leadership skills
  • Demonstrated group work, conflict resolution, mediation and problem solving skills to support coalitions, round tables, partnerships and networks
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • In depth knowledge of the Peel community and experience in working with diverse communities and diverse social locations
  • Practice community engagement / development within a critically reflective, anti-oppressive and anti-racist framework
  • Ability to link development, social action, and social planning with child welfare practice
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health and impact on marginalized communities. 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MSW/BSW or relevant human services degree
  • 3-5 years direct community engagement/development work experience
  • A class "G" driver's license and daily access to a vehicle are required
  • Experience in anti-racist and anti-black racism work.
  • Second language is an asset
  • Knowledge of social media 

HOURS OF WORK: 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, however working hours may vary and applicants must be flexible to work outside of standard office hours

 

HOURLY RATE: $36.40 - $46.89
