The Category and Pricing Analyst will be responsible for contributing towards Brand and Product strategy, monitoring and evaluating category development and supporting in market product portfolio by monitoring the growth and development of all key cannabis product categories and delivering in depth pricing analysis and pricing strategy both locally and internationally. This role will report to the VP, Marketing and Communications.

DUTIES:

  • Keep track of Valens brands and competitive performance data, providing regular reporting related to category development, competitive development
  • Create and execute a monthly category and business review summarizing market movements across companies and brands
  • Search for and isolate white spaces in the category by reviewing both local trends, and international launches in the cannabis as well as CPG categories as inspiration
  • Use category data to create competitive pricing boards and monitor new product launches and key price developments impacting or results in category and specific product performance
  • Ensure that internal pricing models are up-to-date with the latest data on provincial markups, excise tax, and sales taxes to ensure accuracy
  • Provide data as required for listings and price change submissions accurately and on-time
  • Ensure that all Sales stakeholders are equipped with the data they need to execute pricing effectively
  • Keep track of and effectively manage the product portfolio pricing mix keeping a high level view on price strategy across the mix
  • Monitor progress and follow up with sales as necessary to gather board confirmations. Send weekly tracking report on all active executions
  • Working with the demand planner and finance department, perform post-execution tracking by validating in-market prices against MSRP and report on the effect on volume
  • Curate marketing insights data by ensuring the data is available, accurate, and relevant
  • Provide feedback to continuously improve pricing-related processes
  • Other duties as assigned by the VP, Marketing and Communications
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Degree in Economics, Business Administration, Marketing or other related field
  • 2-3 years working experience in marketing, sales, and/or finance
  • Experience in cannabis and/or CPG environment would be an asset
  • Strong data management and analytical skills with strict attention to detail
  • Capable of developing business insights and effectively communicating them to the business
  • Creative problem solver and strategic thinker with a strong work ethic
  • Highly organized, able to prioritize multiple projects effectively and work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Well-versed in Microsoft Office (PowerPoint and Word), expert proficiency in Excel
  • Strong verbal and written and communication skills
  • Ability to be resourceful and proactive when issues arise
  • Ability to complete a satisfactory criminal record check
