Job Title: Machine Operator

Reports To: Supervisor, Production

Department: Service Bureau

Shift: Sunday-Thursday, 12:00am-8:00am

Training: Will be during the day or afternoon for the first 3 months

Job Summary


The Operator is responsible for processing daily jobs which involves the merging of plastics to carriers or card personalization and processing of customer files. They may also follow a day to day schedule of jobs requiring printing and which need to be completed in a specific time frame or according to the clients SLA; follows all procedures specific to each job by checking the sample books and/or instruction/production sheets provided; assists the Supervisor in making sure each job scheduled is run/printed trouble free. The operator also uses troubleshooting practices within the department in order to reduce potential delays within the department, as well as, reducing the risk of delays further along the production chain and other production departments. The operator monitors production emails or other forms of communication relating to Digital Printing or Burst & Fold issues that may need attention and acts on them accordingly.


Primary Responsibilities


  • Set-up machine (change over) as per customer requirement
  • Ensure plastics and carriers match
  • Follow a specified schedule to retrieve correct orders and following correct procedure to print jobs
  • Responsible for submitting the correct job files to printers according to the job production logs and stats pages
  • Ensure schedule is being followed day to day
  • Communicate with second operator on all job details; feeder/catcher
  • Basic maintenance on the machine when required
  • Fill up the glue system when required
  • Monitor the datatrak system
  • Feed plastics and carriers in their respective hoppers
  • Set-up merge position
  • Bring empty bins to the work station along with production racks
  • Write out tags for the production bin which include job details
  • Place full bins on racks
  • Identify bins with issues
  • Report any issues to the Supervisor in a timely manner
  • Use the Time Management System (TMS) as per Company’s procedures

 Secondary Responsibilities


  • Complete all related logs; manual and/or electronic
  • Communicate daily with other departments
  • Daily production report
  • Provides production status/trends as required
  • Works on special projects as assigned
  • Assist in other production related duties as assigned
  • Comply with G&D Environmental, Health & Safety  policies, procedures and report any Environmental, Health & Safety hazards, incidents and concerns to the immediate supervisor/manager.  Management will ensure employees are provided with job specific Environmental, Health & Safety information, training and also ensure employees follow workplace Health & Safety policies and procedures.


Qualifications, Experience and Educational Requirements


Work Experience:


  • Minimum one years experience in Machine Operation is an asset
  • Experience with SAP is an asset
  • Experience with datatrak system is an asset
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel is preferred

  •  High School Diploma; post secondary education is preferred


Working Conditions


  • Overtime may be required
  • Fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Safety shoes and smock required on the production floor


Physical Requirements


  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Able to climb ladders
  • Able to stand or sit for long periods of time
